iPad: My Thoughts. Take em or Leave em

Okay okay I know I’m just a little late to the punch but I figure never late then never. Put your seatbelts on boys and girls this may be a long one.

The iPad, my thoughts:

Lets start off by saying that I am a huge fan of apply product. I think the iPhone has great potential, the iPod changed the world despite horrible hardware, and shitty software (iTunes, really who’s going to deny that it sucks. It may be the worst piece of software apple has ever made. Its slow and it…. AH! Never mind OFF TRACK!). I’ve made my point, I like apply products, and I give credit where credit is due.

On to my thoughts. I could sum up my thoughts on the iPad in a few words, VERY BIG IPHONE! But I won’t. I will go into some more detail.

One thing that I think is very important for a tablet, is the approach. How a company approaches designing a tablet is the most important factor in its success. It is important to remember when designing these devices, that they are neither, small laptops or big phones, but some where in between. Unfortunately, for us, the consumer, most companies don’t seem to get this, Apple included. Most tablets are just small laptops that are underpowered and very expensive. But on the other side, we have a product like the iPad, which is just a really big cell phone.

In todays market we need something in between. We need a product with a full browser, a full media player, that can act as an e-book reader and can support all of todays most common protocols. Unfortunately for the iPad it is so close to being all it could be.

I was going to go step by step naming all the good and bad about the iPad but instead im just going to simply give suggestions at what the iPad should be from the target market of a iPad consumer, to make the device everything it should be, that the iPad is missing or completely ignoring.

First thing is first I guess. Flash support. You cant give me a device and tell me that it’s sole purpose is to make my life easier and better without giving this device the proper support for web protocols such as flash. For those of you who don’t know what flash is, it is a type of coding that is used on the internet in which the iPhone and iPad (ipod touch) completely ignores. Have you ever gone to a website that would normally have fancy animations on it. Yet on your device the page simple wont load or give you that F*&^’n question mark. THAT’S FLASH! And the mobile browser used by the iPad is lacking support for flash. My phone support flash why cant they. Simple! They are either a) lazy. Or b) want you to buy application in the appstore and take a commission from it, when they could just put flash support in the mobile browser. My guess is B.

Second thing, and this is my biggest problem with the iP** device line. No background apps. Why after all this time (3 years with the iPhone) has apple not perfected the art of background processes. Why is it that the iPhone, one of the most powerful mobile devices on the market (now the iPad too) can’t run more than 1 app at a time. My HTC hero is currently running around 20 processes and granted it does get a little sluggish (and when I say a little I mean a little barely noticeable) the iPad is much more powered then my Hero.

Last but certainly not least. Widgets. Such a huge thing for the MAC OS(X) yet they are no where to be found on the iPad. This is a big no no. widgets are extremely important on a tablet. They are a quick way to send and receive info without having to launch a full app.

Overall, I would have to say that in its current form the iPad is a definite DO NOT BUY! I think most of the tech industry would agree and so are most consumers going to agree when this comes out. I smell another Apple TV (if you don’t know what that is, its one of Apple’s failed devices that doesn’t get talked about! OR ELSE THEY KILL YOU! APPLE CANT FAIL!). If you are interested in a tablet I would suggest you take a look at a device like the Dell Mini 5 which is a step in the right direction, where the iPad is only a step backwards.

Bak 2 Basiks is BAK

Hey every one! Okay so I’m really sorry about the past 2 months. To all of our readers and followers. When I (WE) started Bak 2 Basiks, me and the whole team were all broke ass college students with hours of time on our hands to spend doing random shit. As the past year and a half have progressed, most of us have graduated from college, and have moved onto our full time careers. This for myself, meant starting my full time job as a help desk analyst. Now I love my job, but its left me between a rock and …. a hard place (i guess).

How much time can i really devote to B2Basiks, and the rest of the Basik Entertainment group was a serious question. Thankfully how ever. I have decided to continue with the site. and the rest of my web based projects. For the time being work has yet block b2basiks.com which mean I can update it from work. which is a good thing for me and YOU! As of today we are kind of out of our hibernation state that we have been in for the past few months. Starting right now (give me a couple days to get back into the swing of things) you can expect regular posts again.

That being said. I want to deliver more content to all of our readers. What this means is that I am going to need more and more writers. people that can write consistently. writers can write on any topic any length. Hell as you can see in most of my posts they are just pictures or videos for the most part.

New Design for A New Year

Alright every one! So as i said last week, this is a brand new year and with a new year bring new ideas and a new path for the Basik Entertainment group. As you can see we launched our brand new design last night.

The design is a little bit different then anything we had in the past. So although this is the design I’ve decided to go with after lots of redesigning and work, this will probably be changing a lot. There are a few bugs that hidden deep down and were working 100% if you do find a bug in the site please e-mail me @ dave@b2basiks.com. Small little design things will be fixed and updated in the next few weeks.

SO! for the future!

Basik Radio site will be taken down in the next few days, maybe even tonight.

Although the Redesign will only take a few days were going to be down for about 2 weeks. What does this mean for our listeners, well all it means is that you will be listening to The AutoDJ for pretty much the whole time.

Over the next 2 weeks we will be planing a relaunch event and promoting like crazy. A date will be set for that very soon. We want to get a lot of listeners that night!

Happy New Years!

hey every one! happy new years to every one of our readers! we hope you all have a very nice christmas and hope you all havea  safe and fun new years celebration.

News for 2010! as most us of have been, I have been super busy the past 3-4 weeks, and ive been slacking off majour. but starting the new year, once I recover from my celebrations that is, we will be back in full force.

That being said, a list of things to be expected in 2010 in no particular order:

A relaunch of basic radio! in the past few months we have kind left Basik radio fall through the cracks. Missing shows, a newly built schedule,  and a repetitive autoDJ (rrrg) will be fixed as of the end next week. Themost impotant and exciting thing is a brand new website! I am currently working on a brand new design for Basik Radio but that may take a few more weeks. Just give it some time.some more long term BR goals… New DJ’s New shows New everything!

A Brand new Design for our home page. Not that we don’t like the current one, but when i built it, it was not meant to be permanent. I meant for it to only last a few weeks maybe a month while i came up with something SUPER AWESOME! But… I got lazy and people seemed to like the new design so i kept it longer than i had hoped. So once I rebuild the Basik Radio Site this is my #1 priority.  time frame on this is about 2 months. If you dont want me to change the site, then leave a comment bellow and i’ll think about leaving it. If you are a web designer and know a lot about PHP and Word Press Customization, then you can e-mail me, @ dave@b2basiks.com, and maybe you can help us out.

Last but certainly not least (no seriously not least. i want to do this right away!). Find more writers. I want people that can help me post on a daily basis so that there is enough content for our readers (THATS YOU!). I’m looking for more writers. people who are going to write every day, on any topic, hell it can be random youtube videos or photos that you post, hell i dont care!
